22/01/2013 High winds from the low pressure system 'Gong' provoked the collapse of multiple structures

The extreme meteorological phenomenon ‘Gong’ recently tracked through the Iberian Peninsula with intense gust winds reaching 140km/hr.

The system provoked the collapse of multiple structures, including the roof and support frame of the Tiro de Línea swimming pool (Seville); the collapse of a lighting tower at the Príncipe Felipe Stadium (Cáceres); the roof structure of the Badajoz Institute which was displaced some 30m; the destruction of an advertisement board in the ‘Cavaleri’ commercial center in San Juan de Aznalfarache (Seville); the failure of façade elements of the Dénia sports complex; and damage to elements of the thermosolar plant in Badajoz.
